CEA 2023 : Winnipeg, Manitoba

The 57th Annual Conference of the Canadian Economics Association is co-hosted by the Departments of Economics at The University of Manitoba and The University of Winnipeg with in-person sessions to be held at the RBC Convention Centre in downtown Winnipeg June 2 and June 3. The CEA Embrace Day with workshops will be held on Thursday June 1 and a day of online only sessions will be held in advance on Tuesday May 30, 2023.

Professor Michelle Alexopoulos of the University of Toronto is the programme chair. The local organizers are Professors Melanie O'Gorman, Hugh Grant, Soham Baksi, Stefan Dodds and Yiwen Wang of The University of Winnipeg and Professor Soodeh Saberian & Umut Oguzoglu of The University of Manitoba.

The Canadian Economics Association would like to acknowledge that the land on which we will gather in 2023 is the Treaty One Territory, the home and traditional lands of the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe), Ininew (Cree), and Dakota peoples, and in the national homeland of the Red River Métis.

Please note that the on-line programme will be delivered via Zoom Events. Testing days for presenters will be available on May 26th and May 29th, times are TBA. A message will be sent to all participants with more details and links.

CWEC & CEDC MENTORING SESSIONS

Jointly organized by the Canadian Economic Diversity Committee (CEDC) and the Canadian Women Economists Committee (CWEC/CFÉC). The mentoring is aimed at early career economists, and all who fall into this category are welcome. The event will be held on Friday morning during the first time slot. Mentees and mentors will be organized by topic. Come and speak with a senior economist about issues such as "Getting Published", "Managing Service", "Balancing", "The importance of presentations." etc. You will have the opportunity to discuss the issues you deem most relevant with senior economists. 
The deadline for registration is May 13, 2023 - Space is limited to 40 attendees.

Groups or individuals organizing sessions were asked to contact the program office at cea.conference@gmail.com (Attn: Paula Emery) by January 14th. For further details, see the session organizers page. 


STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS

Applications for Student Travel Grants are to be submitted by March 17th. Application available details here. 


IMPORTANT DATES & DEADLINES

December 2022 The conference organizer starts accepting submissions of papers for presentation at the conference through the web interface.
January 14, 2023 Last day for prospective special session organizers to contact the program office for booking blocks of sessions.
February 1, 2023 Advance registration for the conference commences.
February 10, 2023 Deadline to submit your paper or abstract.
March 17, 2023 Last day for travel grant applications to be submitted to the CEA
March 24, 2023 Last day for notifying paper submitters on the acceptance or rejection of their paper for presentation.
April 7, 2023 Last day for paper presenters to register. Presenters must register by this date or lose their conference program slot.
Mid April The preliminary program is expected to become available.
May 5, 2023 Last day to withdraw and receive a refund (full refund minus a $75 administration fee). After this date, the registration fee is non-refundable. *If the conference format is changed after this date due to a public health recommendation, the option to withdraw without penalty will be considered and conference fees may be reduced. All delegates will be informed.
May 13, 2023 Early registration ends, and late registration fees apply thereafter.
May 30, 2023 On-line sessions take place
June 1, 2023 Embrace Diversity Summit Day
June 2, 2023 The in-person conference begins
